Karla! Thank you for writing this. For sharing this. Reading it felt like home because I remember many of the same feelings while being a part of the evangelical chasm of faith and Blackness. It’s a dangerous place to exist, and I’m heartbroken that so many of us have shared a drink from that river of grief. Oh what blessed freedom awaits on the other side, however. I can tell you’re writing from that place because it blessed me. Thank you again!
All the yeses. I heard Marcie Walker say once that race is a hierarchy of belonging - and I think that is painfully true in a racial context and all the layered contexts (including race) of American Christianity. T church has built a whole hierarchy when Jesus kept meeting people, ANY people, at a table! I love you and your words. Thank you for trusting us with your stories, Karla 💙
Loooove this. So beautiful. Heartbreaking. Unfair. Important. Wishing and hoping you find ways to keep sharing your truth without centering whiteness. Love you. xx
